Hensley Voice Studio
Wasilla, Alaska
Hensley Voice Studio was founded in 2006 with a mission to promote the study of good singing in South-central Alaska. It is a preparatory voice studio training young, pre-professional singers and high-achieving young amateurs. Singers from the studio have won scores of local, regional and national competitions, received paid professional work and been given acceptance into highly selective college programs. Hundreds more have enhanced their lives and educations through their love and greater understanding of music.
Singers study classical singing and musical theatre, as gateways to other styles. The emphasis is always on good technique and vocal safety. Students are taught easy and effortless vocal production, which will liberate them to be expressive and creative in all their singing. The role of a good voice teacher is to help each student like their voice better and to make singing easier and more enjoyable. There is never any judgment on the singer or their current place in their personal vocal development.
There is also a very strong emphasis on fundamental musicality, including note-reading, music theory, sight-singing, ear training and functional piano. The goal is to prepare highly motivated young singers for a rigorous college curriculum or professional performing career. Whether or not a singer chooses to pursue a music-led path, they will leave the studio with many lasting skills.
While we work to a high level of detail, there is never any pressure regarding an individual singer's personal progress. Students are expected to regularly participate in class performances, semi-annual public recitals and, when appropriate, local competitions. However, classes and lessons are fun and relaxed. The studio is a safe and nurturing place to explore one's creative potential. We want you to like to sing!
